Concacaf Gold Cup 2025 Final: Mexico Beat United States To Retain Title In Houston Thriller
Mexico successfully defended their Concacaf Gold Cup title, claiming the championship for a record 10th time on Sunday evening with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the United States at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. The U.S. took an early lead in the fourth minute when former FC Dallas centre-back Chris Richards headed a free kick from Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Sebastian Berhalter off the crossbar, and it bounced just over the goal line. After applying sustained pressure, Mexico equalised in the 27th minute when striker Raúl Jiménez scored with a powerful first-time shot past New York City FC goalkeeper Matt Freese. Jiménez dedicated his goal to former club teammate Diogo Jota, the Portuguese forward who tragically passed away on Thursday morning.
