We’re underway in the Coppa Italia quarter-final! Bologna and Lazio get the first half started, with a place in the semi-finals on the line. Early nerves, big stakes.
Early sight of goal for Bologna. Santiago Castro lets fly from outside the box after a neat layoff by Ferguson, but Ivan Provedel is equal to it, holding comfortably in the centre of his goal.
Goal for Bologna! The pressure from the corner finally tells as Nikola Moro swings in a dangerous cross and Santiago Castro rises right in front of goal to nod home from point-blank range. It’s tucked into the bottom-left corner, and the hosts grab a huge breakthrough in this quarter-final.
We’re into the 39th minute and the rhythm has really broken down. Late challenges are creeping in, tempers starting to bubble, and the referee has had enough, he’s calling players over and urging everyone to cool it before this gets out of hand. A bit of control needed from both sides now.
Half-time at the Dall’Ara and Bologna take a deserved 1–0 lead over Lazio thanks to Castro’s close-range header. The hosts have controlled most of the play, though Maldini did come agonisingly close to levelling with a clever move from a set piece. To make things tougher, Pedro’s injury has further stretched Maurizio Sarri’s already thin options heading into the second half.
We’re back underway for the second half. The players are out, the crowd has found its voice again, and the next 45 minutes are ready to unfold. Plenty still to be decided from here.
Goal! Tijjani Noslin brings it level. Dele-Bashiru does brilliantly down the right to carve out the opening and then slides a perfect ball across the face of goal, leaving Noslin with the simple task of finishing. We’re all square again, and the momentum has swung.
So close for Lazio! Patient, clever build-up around the edge of the area ends with Danilo Cataldi striking a sweet low effort, but it whistles just past the post. Inches away from a late equaliser.
Full-time at the Dall’Ara and we’re not done yet. Bologna and Lazio can’t be separated after 90 minutes, the score locked at 1-1. Tension rising, players gathering their thoughts, it’s straight to penalties to decide who moves on.
It’s over! Lazio hold their nerve in the shootout, winning it 4–1. Tijjani Noslin and his teammates keep their composure from the spot, and when Taylor buries the decisive kick, the celebrations begin. Heartbreak for Bologna, but Lazio are heading to the semi-finals.
Thanks for joining.
