Proteas secured a 37-run win to go 1-0 up in the ODI series.
South Africa Women set the tone for the three-match ODI series against Pakistan Women with a convincing 37-run victory in the 1st ODI at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.
After Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl first, the Proteas posted a competitive 260/6 in a rain-shortened 41-over match, anchored by a commanding 93 from Sune Luus* and a vital 57 not out by Sinalo Jafta. Laura Wolvaardt’s 43 provided early stability as South Africa built a well-balanced innings that kept the scoring rate healthy throughout.
Chasing 261, Pakistan Women showed promise through an opening partnership that kept them in contention early, but regular breakthroughs from South Africa’s bowlers soon tilted the match. Sidra Amin (68) and Ayesha Zafar (80) shared a strong 116-run stand that steadied the chase, yet once dismissed the required run rate climbed beyond reach.
Tight death bowling, including key dismissals by Tumi Sekhukhune and Luus herself, saw Pakistan bowled out for 223 in 38.5 overs, handing the Proteas a series-opening win and early momentum. Pakistan’s batting fightback was notable but ultimately lacked the finishing push needed on the day, leaving them to regroup quickly ahead of the next ODI.
