Kwena Maphaka fires in a slower short one, and Roston Rutherford tries to pull hard, but the bounce gets the better of him, and he misses completely. A dot ball, and you can see the frustration.
Kwena Maphaka fires in a slower short one, and Roston Rutherford tries to pull hard, but the bounce gets the better of him, and he misses completely. A dot ball, and you can see the frustration.
But Rutherford quickly makes up for it on the very next delivery, Maphaka pitches it up a bit outside off, and Rutherford swings with all he’s got. The ball races past the infield and sails over third man for a massive six. What a turnaround in just two balls.
Marco Jansen hits the deck hard and Hetmyer goes after it with a big swing, but it flies off the outside edge towards third man. For a moment, it looks like Nortje might get a chance, but the ball just doesn’t carry far enough.
It drops short, and Nortje does brilliantly to get his body behind it, stopping what could’ve been a boundary. Just a single in the end, but plenty of drama.
Keshav Maharaj fires it in quick and wide, and Shimron Hetmyer shuffles right across looking for the slog-sweep. He doesn’t quite get hold of it though, a mistimed drag through midwicket, and long-on is in quickly to keep it down to just a single.
Kwena Maphaka bangs it in back of a length on the leg side and Brandon King looks to pull, but he’s through the shot far too early. The ball seems to hold up a touch, maybe even the slower one, and instead of the bat, it clips the thigh pad.
De Kock can only watch as it pops up awkwardly and balloons over him for four leg byes, messy, but runs all the same for the West Indies.
Marco Jansen delivers a sharp short ball outside off and Shai Hope tries to pull, but there’s a faint noise as it carries through to de Kock. The umpire initially says not out, but South Africa are convinced and take the review immediately.
UltraEdge confirms a clear under-edge, and Hope is already walking before the decision is shown. A big early breakthrough as Hope departs for 4.
We are underway! Brandon King and Shai Hope are at the crease, with King on strike. Kagiso Rabada will open the bowling attack for South Africa.
