New Zealand moved one step closer to a series victory with a dominant 8-wicket win over South Africa in the 3rd T20I at Eden Park, Auckland. The result gives the Black Caps a 2-1 lead in the 5-match series.
After winning the toss and opting to field, New Zealand’s bowlers stifled the Proteas from the outset.
Kyle Jamieson (3/24) and Ben Sears (2/18) dismantled the top order, while Cole McConchie picked up key wickets to restrict South Africa to a subpar 136/9. Only Tony de Zorzi (31) and Wiaan Mulder (28) offered significant resistance.
The chase was a mere formality for the hosts. Devon Conway (44) and Tim Robinson (52*) shared a blistering 96-run opening stand that effectively ended the contest. Despite a late wicket from Keshav Maharaj, Robinson stayed firm to guide New Zealand home with 22 balls to spare.
New Zealand responded emphatically in Hamilton on March 17, posting a competitive 175/6 before dismantling South Africa’s batting lineup for 107 in 15.3 overs to level the series. With momentum shifting between the two sides, the winner of the third T20I will move into a strong position in the series.
