Jofra Archer To Make Red-Ball Return With Sussex In County Championship

Jofra Archer will get a boost in his hopes of returning to the England Test side as he is set to play red-ball cricket for Sussex. The fast bowler made his debut in the longest format for England in the 2019 Ashes, taking 22 wickets across four Tests at an average of 20.27.

He played nine further Tests, taking 42 wickets in his 13 matches, but has not featured since facing India back in 2021.

Archer has struggled with multiple injuries, predominantly to his right elbow and back, and therefore not played a red-ball match for over four years.

England Test captain Ben Stokes revealed that Archer asked him about playing the Zimbabwe Test at Trent Bridge.

With four more Tests against India and an Ashes series coming up, Archer could have a big role to play for England this year.

England selector Luke Wright also stated that if Archer can make it through all four days for Sussex, he could be available for the second Test against India on July 2.

Sussex face Durham in the County Championship on June 22, with Archer in line to make a long-awaited return.

Archer has appeared for England in white-ball matches.

He last played a T20I against India in February, while he was also part of England's Champions Trophy squad earlier this year.
