Summary
  • Vaibhav Suryavanshi blasted 171, powering India to a record 433/6 in the U19 Asia Cup opener

  • Strong support from Aaron George and Vihaan Malhotra, both scoring 69, helped India dominate

  • UAE managed only 199/7, with India cruising to a 234-run win

India crushed UAE by 234 runs in the opening match of the U19 Asia Cup on Friday, powered by a breathtaking 171 from 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

The Samastipur teen tore through the UAE bowling with 14 sixes and nine boundaries, reaching his fifty in just 30 balls and his hundred in 56, putting the hosts completely on the back foot.

Suryavanshi put on a 212-run stand with Aaron George, who scored 69, while Vihaan Malhotra also contributed 69, as India piled up 433 for 6, their highest-ever U19 ODI total and the record for the U19 Asia Cup.

The middle order, including Vedant Trivedi (38), Abhigyan Kundu (32*), and Kanishk Chouhan (28), ensured the 400-plus mark was comfortably crossed.

Chasing an imposing target, UAE never found momentum. Early wickets left them struggling at 48 for 5 after quick dismissals of Muhammad Rayan, Ayaan Misbah, and Ahmed Khudadad. Uddish Suri’s unbeaten 78 and Prithvi Madhu’s 50 offered some resistance, but UAE could only manage 199/7.

Suryavanshi’s innings is now the second-highest by an Indian in U19 ODIs, behind Ambati Rayudu’s unbeaten 177 in 2002, and the ninth-highest in men’s U19 ODI history, setting a perfect tone for India’s campaign.
