India were handed their third straight loss of the ongoing ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 after England defeated the hosts by four runs at Indore's Holkar Stadium on Sunday (October 19). India lost momentum towards the end after being in control of the chase throughout. Deepti Sharma delivered an all-rounder performance but England won through a sweep-laden hundred by Heather Knight.

England openers Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones put up a 73-run opening stand before Heather Knight joined the party and hit an 86-ball century. Knight was run out for 109 from 91 while Jones also hit a half-century. England posted a formidable 288/8 in their 50 overs with Deepti Sharma starring for India with a four-wicket haul.

India's chase was powered by Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur who kept the required run rate in check throughout their 125-run partnership for the third wicket. Kaur scored run-a-ball 70 and after she departed Deepti came into raise a half-century for herself. Mandhana was dismissed for 88 in the 42nd over and after that the boundaries dried up.

England's disciplined bowling and tight fielding towards the end restricted India to 284/6 in 50 overs.

This is now India's third straight defeat in the tournament while England qualified for the semifinals with the win.
