Mohammed Siraj lavished praise on Akash Deep after the pair combined to script India’s brilliant turnaround with the ball in the second Test at Edgbaston. Siraj’s superb 6/70 and Akash’s career-best 4/88 helped bowl England out for 407, handing India a crucial 180-run lead in reply to their first-innings 587.

Siraj, speaking to BCCI.TV, credited the Bengal pacer for his relentless effort and discipline. “Akash Deep is like a horse. He was waiting for opportunity and when the opportunity arrived he has shown how hungry he was. To be honest I enjoyed a lot bowling with him,” Siraj said, clearly impressed by his partner’s composure and determination.

Siraj also reflected on his own role in India’s strong showing with the ball. “I love when given responsibility. My only goal was not to give runs from my end. I tried to bowl with control as much as possible and keep the batsmen under pressure,” he added.

Akash, who replaced the rested Jasprit Bumrah for this Test, returned the praise for Siraj and highlighted the value of their partnership, particularly with the new ball. “With the first new ball I got two wickets but Mian (Siraj) played a big role. He kept the pressure from one end,” said Akash. “Very important role (Siraj played), we bowled in partnership with the new ball. Enjoyed a lot. The way we made a comeback with the second new ball was special.”

Despite narrowly missing out on a maiden five-wicket haul, Akash remained unfazed. “Five wickets will come and go but I never have these things in mind,” he said, reflecting a mature and team-first mindset.

Together, the pace duo ensured England’s lower order folded quickly after the 303-run stand between Jamie Smith and Harry Brook, sealing a dominant position for India heading into the final stages of the Test.
