India Vs England, 2nd Test: A Match To Remember For Shubman Gill, Says Ravi Shastri

India Vs England, 2nd Test: Shastri, speaking to Sky Sports, praised the team’s resilience after the heartbreak at Leeds. “It’s a tribute to the character of the boys to bounce back the way they have. The defeat at Leeds was a tough pill to swallow, but this is a game where they have dominated right through with the bat, ball, and in the field. It’s a Test match to remember for Gill and India,” said Shastri

India’s young brigade etched their names in history, registering a thumping 336-run victory over England to level the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 1-1 — their first-ever win at Edgbaston. The emphatic triumph was hailed by former head coach Ravi Shastri and ex-wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, who highlighted the team’s character and the brilliance of skipper Shubman Gill.

Shastri, speaking to Sky Sports, praised the team’s resilience after the heartbreak at Leeds. “It’s a tribute to the character of the boys to bounce back the way they have. The defeat at Leeds was a tough pill to swallow, but this is a game where they have dominated right through with the bat, ball, and in the field. It’s a Test match to remember for Gill and India,” said Shastri.

Indeed, Gill led from the front with the bat, amassing a record 430 runs across both innings — the most ever by an Indian in a single Test. Former teammate Karthik lauded Gill’s elegance and temperament. “India has this knack of giving cricketers names, and Gill is known as the prince. And he plays in a very princely manner.

"He is very sure of what he wants to do, but more importantly, he has looked the part mentally. He has batted the most consistently and managed to understand what he wants to bring to the table. For nine out of ten days of Test cricket, India have been the strong team,” Karthik remarked.

The victory was not just about Gill’s bat. With Jasprit Bumrah absent and no Kuldeep Yadav in the XI, Akash Deep rose to the occasion. On a flat Edgbaston pitch, he delivered a sensational fast-bowling display, dismantling England’s resistance and sealing the win with more than a session to spare.

A match for the ages, Edgbaston 2025 will forever be remembered as the Test where India’s next generation came of age.
