The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have been awarded hosting rights for the final of the next three World Test Championships which will take place in 2027, 2029 and 2031. The decision was taken at the annual conference of the International Cricket Council (ICC) going on in Singapore.

“The Board also confirmed the awarding of hosting rights for the ICC World Test Championship Finals for the 2027, 2029, and 2031 editions to the England and Wales Cricket Board, following a successful track record in hosting recent finals,” stated the ICC’s press release.

The 2021 final, initially scheduled for Lord's, was played at Southampton due to COVID-19. The Oval hosted the 2023 final while the recent summit clash took place at Lord's.

Some experts have called for the final to be moved out of England but that is not going to be the case especially for the next three cycles.

England have not been able to make it to the final of any of the first three cycles and yet strong crowds have shown up at the ground on every occasion.

India reached the final of the first two editions but lost on both occasions. New Zealand emerged the champions of the inaugural season in 2021 before Australia won the final two years later. Earlier this year, South Africa won their first world title by defeating defending champions Australia in the summit clash.
