England hammered Sri Lanka by 51 runs at the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy on Sunday, February 22, 2026
England carried on their dominant run over Sri Lanka, which started in the white-ball series before the World Cup, into the tournament as well, and outclassed the hosts in a one-sided affair.
After being invited to bat first, England managed to reach a competitive 146/7 on a slow and tacky pitch courtesy of an aggressive 62-run knock off just 40 balls. Dunith Wellalage topped the wickets chart for the hosts, picking up three (two in powerplay).
In response, Sri Lanka were wrapped up for just 95 in 16.2 overs by a disciplined England bowling. All-rounder Will Jacks turned out to be the wrecker-in-chief with the ball, scalping three key Lankan wickets, breaking the back of their chase.
Skipper Dasun Shanaka was the highest scorer for Sri Lanka, scoring 30 off 24 balls.
