England Women edged past Ireland by 4 wickets in Match 8 of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton to fortify their position at the top in Group 2.

Earlier, after a delayed toss due to rain, the hosts sent the Irish women to bat first in muggy conditions, and their bowlers made good use of the conditions to restrict Ireland to 118/9 in 20 overs. Sophie Ecclestone shone with the ball, registering figures of 3/22, while Louise Little and Orla Prendergast top-scored for the visitors with 26 runs apiece.

In response, the England women were also off to a shaky start, losing their first three wickets within the powerplay, but skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt's sensible knock of 48 off 37 balls guided England home in 17.3 overs with four wickets to spare.

This was England's second consecutive win of the World Cup after beating Sri Lanka by a staggering 87 runs in the tournament opener, which makes them comfortable at the top in Group 2.
