Australia's Matt Renshaw delivered a resilient performance, scoring 89 runs, while the bowlers contributed significantly to secure a remarkable seven-run victory over Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I. This match took place at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on Friday, June 19.
After opting to bat first, Australia set a total of 196 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs, while the home team managed to score 189 runs for 6 wickets, falling just seven runs short of the target.
Batting first, the visitors found themselves in a precarious position at 44/3, as the Bangladesh bowlers wreaked havoc on the Australian top-order with their sheer pace. Nevertheless, Renshaw and Tim David collaborated effectively to rescue their team from a dire situation.
David delivered an explosive performance, scoring 45 runs off just 26 balls, while Nikhil Chaudhary contributed 8 runs. Renshaw remained unbeaten on 89, leading the Australians to an unexpected total.
In response, Tanzid Hasan Tamim was dismissed early, with Renshaw taking out the Bangladeshi opener for 30 runs. Saif Hassan (42) and Parvez Hossain Emon (36) provided some much-needed stability during the middle overs, but the Australians continued to take wickets consistently.
Towhid Hridoy's late surge of 35 runs off 22 balls excited the home crowd, but a series of wickets in the lower order ultimately caused the hosts to fall short of the Australian total, resulting in a series loss.
Australia have won the toss and elected to bat first against Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I.
