Australia concluded a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign on a high note, dismantling Oman by nine wickets in their final Group B fixture.
While the victory was clinical, it served only as a consolation for the 2021 champions, who had already been eliminated from Super 8 contention following shock losses to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka earlier in the tournament.
Opting to field first, Australia’s attack was relentless. Xavier Bartlett set the tone by striking with the very first ball of the match to remove Aamir Kaleem.
Oman’s batters struggled to find their footing against a disciplined Australian unit. Adam Zampa was the chief destroyer, claiming a masterful 4/21 in 3.2 overs, slicing through the middle and lower order.
Despite a gritty 32 from Wasim Ali, Oman was bundled out for a meager 104 in just 16.2 overs.
Chasing 105, captain Mitchell Marsh played with the intent of a man with a point to prove. Marsh launched a brutal assault, smashing an unbeaten 64 off just 33 balls, including seven boundaries and four towering sixes.
He reached his half-century in just 26 balls during a blistering powerplay. Travis Head contributed a brisk 32 before falling to a spectacular caught-and-bowled by Shakeel Ahmed.
Australia reached the target in a mere 9.4 overs, equaling the record for the fastest chase of a 100+ total in T20 World Cup history. Australia finishes third in Group B, while Oman exits the tournament winless.
