Afghanistan finished their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with an emphatic 82-run win over Canada at the MA Chidambaram in Chennai on February 19, 2026.
After being put in to bat, Afghanistan put on a mammoth 200/4 on the board on the back of opener Ibrahim Zadran's majestic 95 not out including seven fours and five towering sixes. He was well complemented by Sediqullah Atal, who chipped in with a handy 44 off 32 balls.
In response, no Canadian batter could go on to make a big score and they were restricted to just 118/8 by the Afghan bowlers. Mohammed Nabi scalped a four-for to break the back of CAN's middle-order and was well-supported by Rashid Khan, who chipped in with two wickets.
It was dead rubber for both the teams as they have already been knocked out of the tournament yet played at such a big stage is already such a big motivation and both the teams would have liked to end their journey with a win.
While, Canada lost all their four games, it was a close call for Afghanistan as the loss in the double super match against South Africa costed them the tournament.
The weather in Chennai remains largely decent for a game of cricket, and since it's a 7 PM start, it'll be a little cooler than it is during the daytime. There is no forecast of rain during the match, and the temperature is expected to hover around 25-28 degrees Celsius.
The level of humidity will be on the higher side and could surpass the 70% mark, while the winds are expected to blow at around 6-9 km/hour during the match.
Canada have won the toss and elected to field first at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
