Ayush Shetty and Victor Lai are out on the court and participate in the pre-match warm-up. The action finally gets underway in this first-round clash, and Lai wins the first point, but Shetty wins three on the trot to take an early lead.
Despite the ocassional fightback from Lai, a six-point stretch in the middle has given a commanding lead to Shetty at the first game interval. The Indian ace has made a brilliant start to this contest.
Back-to-back points for Lai proves to be a false dawn as Shetty continues the brilliant start he has made in the first game, clinching it with a substantial lead against a higher-ranked opponent.
After two points at the start for Shetty, Lai seems to have reset and found his footing in the second game and has taken a massive seven-point lead at the midway stage. Shetty is completely unable to answer his opponent’s shots at the moment.
A five-point stretch in the middle cuts down Shetty's deficit, and the Indian shuttler mounts a brave late rally. However, it's too little too late, and Lai runs away with the second game. On to the decider we go!
After a rather tight start at 4-4, Lai once again takes a massive lead with a six-point streak. The Canadian has one foot in the second round at the interval. Something needs to change in Shetty’s play for him to make a comeback in this contest.
Absolutely brilliant from Lai, who clinches the third game and the match. After a humbling defeat in the opening game, the Canadian roared back in some style, completely outplaying Ayush Shetty. Still, it was a good fight from the young 21-year-old Indian shuttler, who pushed Lai to the very end, but will return after the first round.
