Uttarakhand Heavy Rain: Dehradun Temple Flooded, Orange Alert Issued For Next Two Days

Uttarakhand has been receiving heavy rains for the past several days, triggering landslides, claiming lives in rain-related incidents.

As heavy torrential rainfall continues to batter the northern state of Uttarakhand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a orange alert for several districts in Uttarakhand, predicting heavy rains on Tuesday. Heavy rain will continue in the state till the weekend, said the weather department.

Orange alert has been issued for Tehri Garhwal, Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Champawat, Nainital, and Haridwar for Wednesday with the possibility of 'very heavy' rainfall in isolated areas.

The IMD previously had issued a yellow alert for several districts in the state including Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Pithoragarh.

According to the weather department, all the districts are expected to experience downpours till Friday, the IMD said.

On Tuesday, it has been reported that rainwater flowed down the steps of Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, located near Dehradun city.

So far, rain-related incidents have claimed at least 31 lives in Uttarakhand after incessant rains triggered flashfloods, landslides and house collapses.

Land subsidence concern escalated in Joshimath after Sunil and Singhdar areas were hit by landslides.

As many as 1,095 houses were partially, 99 severely, and 32 houses were completely damaged in monsoon disaster incidents.
