Oracle’s massive global workforce reduction has hit its India operations particularly hard, with approximately 12,000 employees reportedly among the 30,000 jobs cut worldwide, according to sources within the company. Adding to the uncertainty, another round of layoffs is expected within the coming month.

The American multinational technology giant, headquartered in Austin, Texas, has initiated one of the largest downsizing efforts in its history, signaling a significant restructuring of its operations.

Of the 30,000 employees laid off globally, nearly 40 percent—around 12,000—are based in India, sources said. The company employs roughly 30,000 people in the country, meaning the current cuts represent a substantial reduction of its India workforce.

The Press Trust of India (PTI) quoted two individuals impacted by the retrenchment, including one from the company’s human resource department, who confirmed the scale of the layoffs.

"In India, around 12,000 employees have been laid off. The company is planning another mass layoff within a month," the sources told PTI.

Affected employees were notified of the decision via email. According to PTI, the communication cited "certain organizational changes" as the reason for the restructuring.

"Because of these changes, a decision has been taken to streamline the operations, and as a result, unfortunately, the position you currently hold will become redundant," the email reportedly stated.

The revelation that another round of layoffs is expected within a month has deepened concerns among remaining employees. While details regarding which divisions or regions will be affected in the next phase remain unclear, the back-to-back restructuring suggests a rapid and aggressive recalibration of the company’s workforce strategy.

Oracle had approximately 162,000 full-time employees globally as of May 2025, according to reports. The current reduction of 30,000 jobs—nearly one-fifth of its global workforce—marks one of the largest single rounds of layoffs in the technology sector in recent years.

The company has not issued an official statement regarding the layoffs or the reported plans for further cuts.
