The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched Operation Bihali In Udhampur district which led to an encounter between the militants and the security forces in a remote forested area of Basantgarh.

The encounter takes place only a week ahead of the Amarnath Yatra that is expected to attract large number of crowds to the union territory.

The Jammu-based White Knight Corps in a post on the social media platform X said, “Op BIHALI. Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation was launched by #IndianArmy and@JmuKmrPolice in the Bihali area of #Basantgarh. Contact has been established with #terrorists. The #operation is currently in progress."

The Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to begin on July 3 and a large number of pilgrims are expected to head to the Amarnath cave shrine in the coming days during the Yatra period, which will end on August 9.

Operation Bihali launched by the Army comes two months after the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam where 26 civilians were killed. IAF had launched Operation Sindoor targeting the terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
