According to police, Sirisha’s husband, R. Timappa (also referred to as Thimmarayappa in some reports), had taken a personal loan of ₹80,000 from the moneylender, identified as S. Manikappa or Muni Kannappa, approximately two years ago. While repayments were being made in small monthly instalments, Timappa recently fled the village for Bengaluru to work as a construction labourer. Reports indicate that he abruptly stopped remitting payments, prompting Manikappa and his family to resort to intimidation.

On Monday, Manikappa abducted Sirisha, welcomed his wife and sister-in-law to join in the assault, and bound her publicly to a roadside tree. All this occurred in broad daylight, with her minor children present, while villagers watching the atrocity were blocked from intervening. Even attempts to film the incident invited threats from the accused, reflecting the blatant and unrestrained nature of the assault.

Following alerts from locals, police swiftly arrived on the scene, rescuing Sirisha and her two children. A First Information Report has been lodged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to wrongful restraint (section 341), voluntary hurt (section 323), grievous hurt (section 324), extortion (section 606), and criminal conspiracy (section 34).

Thorough police investigations led to the arrest of Manikappa, his wife Munemma, sister-in-law, and three other relatives. The cumulative force of arresting six individuals underscores the gravity and collective nature of the crime.
