Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh Announces Restoration Of Mobile Internet Services After Months-Long Suspension

Singh elaborated on the initial suspension of mobile internet services, stating it was a measure taken to combat the dissemination of fake news, propaganda, and hate speech during a period of heightened tension.

Manipur's Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, has announced the forthcoming restoration of mobile internet services in the state, following their suspension in the aftermath of ethnic violence that erupted on May 3.

During a press conference, Singh also advocated for the reconsideration of the free movement regime, which currently permits residents living in close proximity to the India-Myanmar border to traverse 16 kilometers into each other's territories without any formal documentation, PTI reported.

Singh elaborated on the initial suspension of mobile internet services, stating it was a measure taken to combat the dissemination of fake news, propaganda, and hate speech during a period of heightened tension. However, with improvements in the situation, mobile internet services are set to resume across the state starting today.

Additionally, Singh emphasized the government's commitment to addressing concerns related to "illegal immigrants" and underscored the necessity of securing the India-Myanmar border through fencing measures.
