Days after the Waqf Amendment Bill was given presidential assent, massive uproar took over the Jammu and Kashmir assembly on Monday. As per reports, the chaos occurred after the National Conference-led government voiced its intent to file a resolution against the Waqf act.

Furthermore, the speaker disallowed the resolutions on Article 370 and the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir.
The state assembly was adjourned for 15 minutes by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather after he refused to allow the adjournment motion against the Waqf act.
As per the speaker, since the matter of the Waqf Act has been brought up before the Supreme Court, the adjournment motion was not allowed.
"I have seen the rules and as per Rule 58, no matter which is sub-judice can be brought up for adjournment. Since this issue is in the Supreme Court and I have got a copy of it, the rule clearly says that we cannot discuss through an adjournment motion," said Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather.
“Parliament has passed the bill, the President has given assent, and it is now law. The matter is with the judiciary, and this Assembly has no authority to debate or discuss it. Doing so would violate constitutional norms," said Leader of opposition Sunil Sharma, while slamming the NC alliance for their motion.
In a separate instance, the Speaker also disallowed Peoples' Conference President Sajjad Lone's resolutions on Article 370 and the Public Safety Act.
This is the first time the J&K assembly has been adjourned during the 2025 Budget Session.
