A fire broke out at Maharashtra Assembly in South Mumbai on Monday due to a scanning machine catching fire at one of the entry gates.

No injuries have been reported. The incident occurred around 3 pm.

The fire was brought under control within five minutes, even as two fire engines and other vehicles of the Fire Brigade were dispatched to the spot, PTI reported.

Legislative Assembly Rahul Narwekar told PTI that a minor fire broke out in a cabin on the premises of the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan.

The preliminary search revealed that a short circuit in a scanning machine could be the possible cause.

"The scanning machine at the entrance of the Vidhan Bhavan appears to have developed a short circuit, which might have led to the fire. It is under control and there is no need to be afraid," Narwekar said.

"There is no technical issue with the Bhavan establishment," he added.

"Fire safety protocols are expected to be reviewed in light of the incident," he added

He fire was accidental and not suggestive of any safety concerns within the assembly. All the staff are safe, and mandatory precautions will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
