Snapchat's 'My AI' shares bizarre story, sparks meme fest

In a recent Snapchat incident, the AI-powered chatbot "My AI" caused a stir by unexpectedly publishing a story and then remaining silent, sparking a memefest.

Users of the American company Snapchat have taken to other social media sites, such as Twitter (now X), to express their concern about a peculiar story that the app's AI feature has submitted. 'My AI' on Snapchat, which was launched in February of this year, began behaving strangely, scaring and shocking netizens while prompting many to report the issue online. Snapchat's My AI chatbot promises to interact with users in the same way that a friend would.
For the first time since its introduction, My AI released its own story, but the images were confusing, and it appeared to be a ceiling or part of someone's skin.
Netizens wondered if everything was fine or if the app was experiencing a bug. People started talking about "Snapchat Hacked" and "Snapchat AI" earlier on Wednesday (August 16). Here's how Snapchat users in the United States reacted to the incident:
One user from Tampa, Florida, shared, “Snapchat AI just said “red.” WTF DOES THAT MEAN”

In a subsequent update, the same person shared “Me and my Snapchat AI are friends again and he says sorry.”

Another user from Florida tweeted that the Snapchat AI chatbot lied to him about his whereabouts when he questioned it. He asked the AI if it was aware of his location , and it denied having such knowledge. However, when the user indicated that their IP address had been used, the AI answered by saying, "I don't have your IP address." The tweet stated “So I got the new SnapChat AI chatbot and it straight up lied to me and tried to gaslight me about it 😂. Im laughin but shit kinda weird, fr.”

Meanwhile, a Snapchat spokesperson reportedly  addressed the issue and stated that the app's AI uploading a story was caused by a momentary outage that has now been resolved. The mystery story that caused bewilderment on Tuesday night was soon deleted by the Snapchat team.
