UK Cabinet Reshuffle: James Cleverly Replaces Suella Braverman, Former PM David Cameron Back As Foreign Minister

The developments came after UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak sacked 43-year-old Indian-origin Home Secretary Suella Braverman on Monday as she recently courted controversy by accusing the Metropolitan Police of 'playing favourites' while tackling aggressive Israel-Gaza protests.

Following British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's decision to sack his Indian-origin Home Secretary, Suella Braverman amid mounting pressure from sections of his Conservative Party as well as from the Opposition or allowing her to continue in her job after she went ahead with an article in a perceived breach of the ministerial code, the United Kingdom on Monday is undergoing a reshuffle.

Suella Braverman sacked as Home Secretary

43-year-old Suella Braverman has repeatedly courted controversy in her senior UK Cabinet role, most recently by accusing the Met Police of “playing favourites” when tackling aggressive Israel-Gaza protests in an article in ‘The Times'.

In a later intervention in support of the police, Braverman said, “Our brave police officers deserve the thanks of every decent citizen for their professionalism in the face of violence and aggression from protesters and counter protesters in London yesterday. That multiple officers were injured doing their duty is an outrage,” Braverman said in a statement on Sunday evening following far-right violence during the protests over the weekend.

"The sick, inflammatory and, in some cases, clearly criminal chants, placards and paraphernalia openly on display at the march mark a new low. Antisemitism and other forms of racism together with the valorising of terrorism on such a scale is deeply troubling,” she said.

However, the intevention fro Braverman's side have come a little too late to save her job in the end.

James Cleverly replaces Suella Braverman

Ater sacking Braverman, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Monday appointed James Cleverly as the new Home Secretary.

Cleverly has been serving as the Foreign Secretary since September last year, and will now take on the Home Office.

David Cameron appointed as foreign minister

In a highly unusual move, former Prime Minister David Cameron was on Monday named UK foreign secretary.

It's rare for a former leader, and a non-lawmaker, to take a senior government post.

The government said Cameron will be appointed to Parliament's unelected upper chamber, the House of Lords.

Speculations sparked when the former Prime Minister David Cameron was seen entering the No.10 Downing Street office of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in London today.
