PM Modi Speaks To Iran PM, Urges Immediate De-escalation In Iran-Israel Conflict Amid Rising Tensions

In a post on social media, Prime Minister Modi said he conveyed India’s “deep concern” over the escalating situation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 22 held a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, urging an immediate de-escalation of hostilities between Iran and Israel and calling for a return to dialogue and diplomacy.

The call came just hours after the United States carried out airstrikes on three nuclear facilities in Iran, an action that has further inflamed tensions across the region and raised fears of a broader conflict.

In a post on social media, Prime Minister Modi said he conveyed India’s “deep concern” over the escalating situation.

“Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. We discussed in detail about the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations,” Mr. Modi wrote.

He added that he reiterated India’s longstanding position favoring diplomacy over confrontation. “Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability,” the Prime Minister said.

India has traditionally maintained strong ties with both Iran and Israel and has consistently advocated for peaceful resolution of conflicts in West Asia.

Iran's Comment Post US Attack

Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said that the United States betrayed diplomatic routes for a solution by attacking Iran.

US strikes hit Iran's Natanz, Fordo, and Isfahan nuclear sites, escalating tensions in Israel-Iran conflict. President Trump warned of further attacks on Iran if peace is not achieved quickly after recent air strikes.

“We were already engaged in diplomacy. We were in the midst of talks with the United States when the Israelis disrupted them,” said Araghchi in a media briefing in Istanbul. “Again, just two days ago in Geneva, we were in negotiations with the Europeans. This time, it was the Americans who decided to sabotage the process.”
