Pakistan: Police Officer Killed In Suicide Bombing At Mosque In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province

The deceased police officer has been identified as Additional SHO Adnan Afridi. One suspect has been arrested by the police.

A police officer was killed on Tuesday in a suicide bombing at a historic mosque in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The police said that while the attacker blew himself, an accomplice of the bomber fled from the scene after the blast.

The police further said that one suspect has been arrested in the case.

The deceased police officer has been identified as Additional SHO Adnan Afridi, reported PTI.

The PTI reported that the blast took place at the historic Ali Masjid (mosque) in the tribal Jamrud tehsil bordering Peshawar.

Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Akhtar Hayat Khan Gandapur said it was a suicide blast, reported PTI, adding that the bomber blew himself up during security checking before entering the mosque.

Earlier in January, a suicide bombing in Peshawar had killed 100 and injured around 200. The mosque was located in Peshawar's high-security Police Lines area and most of the victims were police personnel. At least a deputy superintendent of police (DSPs), five sub-inspectors (SIs), and the mosque's prayer leader Maulana Sahibzada Noorul Amin were among the dead. The terrorist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had taken responsibility for the blast.
