MEA: India Closely Monitoring Iran-Israel Conflict, Ensuring Safety of Nationals

Amid the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday said its continuously monitirng the security situation. Separately, the Embassy is in touch with community leaders regarding welfare and safety.

“The Indian Embassy in Tehran is continuously monitoring the security situation and engaging Indian students in Iran to ensure their safety.

In some cases, students are being relocated with Embassy’s facilitation to safer places within Iran. Other feasible options are also under examination. Further updates will follow.

Separately, the Embassy is in touch with community leaders regarding welfare and safety.”

Over 1,500 Indian students—primarily from Jammu and Kashmir—are currently in Iran, pursuing professional degrees such as MBBS in cities including Tehran, Shiraz, and Qom. The Indian Embassy is in contact with these students and is facilitating their relocation to safer regions where necessary.

The Indian Embassy in Tehran had earlier issued an advisory on X, urging Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin in Iran to remain vigilant. The advisory included a Google form for registration and communication purposes.

“Please remember, it is important not to panic, exercise due caution and maintain contact with the Embassy of India in Tehran,” it stated.

A Telegram channel link was also shared for real-time updates.

On Sunday, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that he had spoken with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar regarding the safety of the students.

Several parents have also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar to arrange for the safe return of their children currently stranded in Iran.

The MEA has affirmed that all feasible options are being explored and further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
