Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has formally approved a law passed by parliament last month to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), according to Iranian state media.
“Masoud Pezeshkian promulgated the law suspending cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency,” state TV reported, confirming the measure drafted in the wake of last month’s Iran-Israel conflict, is now in effect.
However, the presidential order did not specify a timeline or provide details on the scope or implementation of the suspension.
This is followed after the escalating hostilities that began on June 13 when Israel launched Operation Rising Lion targeting Iran’s nuclear sites and military leadership. This was retaliated to, by Iran with Operation True Promise 3 which conducted missile and drone attacks on Israeli positions.
The United States later entered the conflict with Operation Midnight Hammer, launching strikes on key Iranian facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan on June 22. Iran condemned the attacks as “savage assaults” and vowed to continue pursuing its nuclear ambitions. Officials in Tehran also criticised the IAEA for its silence throughout the military campaign.
