Converse pulled its Karina sneaker campaign after critics said imagery in the ad evoked the Ku Klux Klan and lynching.
The Nike-owned brand apologised and said it was removing the advertisement from all channels where it appeared.
The backlash also raised questions about how the Karina ad passed Converse's legal, marketing and advertising review process.
