Biography
Jaskaran Singh Aujla, widely known as Karan Aujla, is an Indian singer, rapper, and songwriter based in Canada, celebrated for his significant contributions to Punjabi music. Born on January 18, 1997, in Ghurala, a village in Ludhiana district of Punjab, Aujla endured immense personal loss early in life when his parents, Balwinder Singh Aujla and Rajinder Kaur, passed away when he was just nine years old. Raised by his sisters and uncle, Aujla's journey to stardom began with a deep-rooted passion for music. During his school years, he met Jassi Gill at a wedding and offered him the lyrics to "Range," which became a popular track and marked Aujla’s entry into the music industry.
After completing his high school education in Burnaby, Canada, Aujla moved there permanently and worked as a longshoreman in Surrey, British Columbia, to support himself while pursuing music. His debut song, "Cell Phone," released in 2014 in collaboration with Mac Benipal, failed commercially. However, this setback didn’t deter him. Aujla began working closely with Deep Jandu in Toronto, honing his craft and creating music that soon captured widespread attention.
Aujla gained recognition with tracks such as "Yaarian Ch Fikk," "Unity," "Alcohol 2," and "Lafaafe," establishing his name in the Punjabi music industry. His big break came in 2018 with "Don't Worry," his first song to chart on the UK Asian Chart, catapulting him to fame. Over the years, he released multiple hits, including "Jhanjar," "Red Eyes," and "Kya Baat Aa," all of which ranked in the top 10 of the UK Asian Chart, with "So Far" breaking into the top 5.
In 2021, Aujla released his debut album, Bacthafucup, which achieved critical and commercial success, peaking at number 20 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart and 34th on the New Zealand Albums chart. His music resonated globally, with seven of his tracks charting on the Global YouTube Music Chart. Spotify honored him as the Largest Digital Artist of 2021 in the Punjabi music industry. Today, Aujla stands as one of the most influential figures in Punjabi music, known for his emotional storytelling, catchy beats, and the ability to connect deeply with audiences worldwide.
