'Completely False And Misleading'

'Giving legal advice or retainer-ship to companies is quite common with lawyers particularly with eminent lawyers'

Statement of Ravi Shankar Prasad, minister for communication & information technology

The allegation of Aam Admi Party is completely false and misleading. As a well-known lawyer Mr Ravi Shankar Prasad has appeared in different proceedings before Supreme Court, High Court other Tribunals and has also given other legal services to his clients, which includes corporate, individuals and well known political figures. The relationship with clients has been purely professional.

Mr Prasad has never given any advice or appeared for Reliance Industries.

Finetech Commercials Private Limited is a different corporate entity to whom legal services where rendered. Giving legal advice or retainer-ship to companies is quite common with lawyers particularly with eminent lawyers. However, before becoming a Minister, he terminated all his professional relationship. In fact with the Finetech Commercials it ended in March 2014 itself nearly two months before he became a Minister in the Central Government.

As a Member of Parliament, Mr. Prasad maintained very high standard and never was associated with any interest of his client or articulated their concerns in the Parliament. In fact when he became the Dy. Leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha, he voluntarily stopped his law practices during Parliament session for attending to Parliamentary duties though there were no such requirements. As a member of the JPC, Mr. Prasad was in the forefront of exposing the misdeeds of the previous government for the irregularities in the allocation of spectrum and licences. He also gave a dissenting note when attempts were made to ensure that full facts should not come in the 2-G spectrum issue.
