India’s built environment is dominated by existing structures such as commercial offices, hospitals, hotels, and retail premises, many of which were constructed before modern automation standards were established. Retrofitting such buildings means traditionally extensive rewiring, high integration costs, and disruptions that last for several months. However, this challenge can be addressed with plug-and-play APIs, which establish a standard digital interface that allows building systems, such as HVAC, lighting, energy meters, or lifts, to communicate with each other, regardless of the make or model. It's like translating multiple languages into one regular and machine-readable script.
