This year there have been some of the most popular Indian film producers who’ve taken global cinema by storm. It has been a year of remarkable triumphs. Here are film producers who are leaving a mark in world cinema with their Indian films.

The year 2023 has been nothing short of a cinematic marvel for Indian Cinema, witnessing a resounding return of films to big screens with staggering box office success and an array of OTT releases garnering global acclaim. While the spotlight often shines on the actors, it’s essential to recognise the driving forces behind these remarkable productions – the producers who pour their passion and dedication into crafting such outstanding content.

This year Indian producers have emerged not only as national luminaries but as pioneers leaving an indelible mark on the international cinematic stage. As the year draws to a close, let’s take a closer look at the esteemed producers who have elevated India’s presence on the global platform this year.

Siddharth Roy Kapur

Siddharth Roy Kapur, the visionary founder and MD of Roy Kapur Films, has championed projects that transcend borders. His relentless pursuit of cinematic excellence found global acclaim with the critically acclaimed film ‘Last Film Show’. This Gujarati-language coming-of-age drama, directed by Pan Nalin, premiered at the 20th Tribeca Film Festival and emerged as India’s contender for the Best International Feature Film category at the 95th Academy Awards – an honour achieved by only the fourth Indian film. Additionally, ‘Chhello Show’ secured titles for Best Gujarati Film and Best Child Artist at the 69th National Film Awards. In July 2023, he was also invited to join the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, for his impact within the Producers branch.

Guneet Monga

Guneet Monga, the driving force behind Sikhya Entertainment, is synonymous with backing ground-breaking narratives. Her exceptional production ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ achieved a ground-breaking victory at the Academy Awards, marking India’s maiden win in the Documentary Short Subject category. Guneet’s triumph continued her legacy at the Oscars, following her previous success in 2019 with ‘Period. End of Sentence’, which secured the Oscar in the Documentary Short Subject category.

Karan Johar

This year proved significant for Karan Johar as he returned to the director’s chair with ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, earning both commercial success and critical acclaim. His exceptional contribution to Indian Cinema garnered international recognition when he received the prestigious Variety International Vanguard Director Award at the ongoing Red Sea Film Festival 2023 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Ektaa Kapoor

Ektaa Kapoor, the driving force behind Balaji Telefilms, has redefined storytelling in Indian television and films. Her monumental contributions, including successful shows both nationally and internationally, were highlighted by her latest release, ‘Dream Girl 2’, starring Ayushmann Khurrana. This year, Ekta Kapoor received the esteemed International Directorate Award at the 51st International Emmy Awards ceremony in New York, becoming the first Indian woman filmmaker to achieve this honour, presented by the esteemed author and new age leader, Deepak Chopra.

Swapna And Priyanka

Swapna and Priyanka, the visionary minds steering Vyjayanthi Movies, have been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of Indian cinema. This year, they earned India’s pride by unveiling the highly anticipated Indian sci-fi epic, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, at the San Diego Comic-Con, presenting a teaser for the film directed by Nag Ashwin (‘Mahanati’).
