Tanvi The Great, which marks directorial comeback of Anupam Kher after two decades, released in cinemas on July 18. It failed to perform well on day 1 of its release. Tanvi The Great, which marks the Bollywood debut of actor Shubhangi Dutt, raked in less than half a crore on Friday.

Despite receiving overwhelming response at Cannes Film Festival this year, Tanvi The Great failed to pull audience to theatres. As per a report in Sacnilk, the film opened at only Rs 40 lakh, as per early estimates.

Tanvi The Great recorded an overall 14.41% Hindi occupancy on Friday. Night shows had highest occupancy of 24.47%, while afternoon shows recorded lowest occupancy of 7.93%. Morning and evening shows had footfall of 13.29%, and 11.93%, respectively.

Tanvi The Great has performed better than Sonakshi Sinha starrer Nikita Roy, which released on the same day. Directed by Kussh Sinha, the supernatural thriller minted only Rs 15 lakh net on day 1.

The film lags behind Saiyaara and Tanvi The Great in the box office race. Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda starrer Saiyaara took a promising start by opening at Rs 20 crore.

Tanvi The Great is an inspiring journey of hope, determination, and resilience. It revolves around the story of Tanvi, an autistic girl, who is inspired by her late father, Samar Raina's (Karan Tacker) who served in the Indian army. She dreams to serve the army, with the help of her grandfather (played by Kher).

The film also stars Pallavi Joshi, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, Anupam, Nasser, and British actor Iain Glen, among others.

It has been produced by Anupam Kher Studios in association with NFDC, and distributed globally by Excel Entertainment, led by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, and AA Films, led by Anil Thadani.
