Thug Life Row: Karnataka Deputy CM Shivakumar Says 'Will Honour Supreme Court Order' On Screening Of Kamal Haasan Starrer

Kannada activists have been against the screening of Kamal Haasan's Thug Life post his remarks about the Kannada language.

Kamal Haasan starrer Thug Life, got embroiled in controversy after the actor's comments about Kannada language. Post which, there was a huge uproar on social media. The Tamil-language film released globally on June 5, except Karnataka due to the controversy. The Kannada activists have been against the screening of the movie and they even called for a ban of the film in the state.

There were protests, police complaints and even warnings were given to film theatres not to screen Thug Life.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday, June 17, has strongly criticised the Karnataka government over Thug Life being not screened in the state, as per a report in PTI.

The court said mob and vigilantes cannot be allowed to take over streets.

Reacting to the court's order Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said that they will honour the court. He said, "We have to abide by the Supreme Court order with honour. Everyone has limitations."

He also appealed to various organisations saying that "we must have our limitations."

"I appeal to all the Kannada activists, please be calm, we should respect the court. No one should take law into their hands," he said.

He also said that Karnataka has always been a peace loving state.

The Deputy CM also said that the state government too gave the activists a chance to express their opinions.

He also appealed to the people of Bengaluru to be generous.

"We have accommodated all the castes, languages and culture in Bengaluru. This is an international city. The people of Karnataka have always been large hearted," he stated.

Shivakumar also underlined that no one can spoil the self-esteem of Kannada and the state government also supports that.

Talking about Thug Life's box office collection, the Mani Ratnam-directorial is struggling to cross the Rs 50 crore mark in India.
