Ranbir Kapoor Says He Is Interested In 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' Sequel

The 2013 film also starred Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin, and was loved by the fans for the chemistry between lead pair and songs.

Ranbir Kapoor's 2013 film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is one of the most loved films so far and in a recent virtual chat with his fans, Ranbir said that he believes that the film “would make a good sequel.” When one of his fans asked which film of his, except for Brahmastra, he “would want to do a sequel of”, the actor chose YJHD.

Ranbir said, “I think Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani would make a good sequel.” The Animal actor also shared that director Ayan Mukerji had a “nice story” for it, but he is now focused on the Brahmastra series. Brahmastra was in the making for seven years, and Ayan had previously shared that he had the idea for the film while he was filming YJHD.

“Ayan also had a very nice story, I remember, but then he went into this Brahmastra journey. But, never say never. He might make it after a couple of years,” he said. Ranbir said that the story could be set 10 years after the first film ended. “I think the story will be 10 years forward where Bunny, Naina, Avi and Aditi, where they are in their lives. I think it’ll be quite interesting and nice to explore those characters,” he said.

The 2013 film also starred Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin, and was quite loved by the fans at the time.

In a 2018 interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ranbir had spoken about a possible sequel of the film, and said that they could make it between Brahmastra Part 1 and Part 2. “Ayan is on the journey to make Brahmastra, which is very time-consuming. But we have often spoken about Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani 2. He also has an idea for it and he seldom says we should have just done that it would be an easier film. More easier than Brahmastra, because he is going quite crazy, making this film. You never know. Maybe between Brahmastra Part 1 and 2, we get a window of 6 months,” he said.

Brahmastra Part 1 released in September 2022 and in April 2023, Ayan announced that he would be shooting the second and third part of the franchise “together.” The second part is now scheduled to release in December 2026 and the third part will  be release in December 2027.
