The Information & Broadcasting Ministry has ordered for the ban of websites and apps of 25 OTT platforms, including Ullu, ALTT, Big Shots App, NeonX VIP, and Desiflix among others for allegedly showing obscene, vulgar, and in some cases pornographic content. Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut on Friday reacted to government's ban on OTT platforms. She supported the crackdown on obscene content and said it's important to see that "our society is not headed toward a complete downfall".

"The ban has been imposed to ensure that our culture and the minds of the youth are not corrupted. It is important to see that our society is not headed toward a complete downfall. It was awaited for a long time," Ranaut told ANI.

Ravi Kishan said "boundaries and limits need to be set.".

"The government’s decision was important in regards to India’s culture," he told the news agency, adding, "Licensed and unlicensed OTT platforms have been making soft porn and obscene films. This is indeed a great decision. There is a ‘Laxman Rekha’ for entertainment."

The apps are reportedly found in violation of various laws, including Section 67 and Section 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.

With the ban, the government aims to curb the easy availability of pornographic content, particularly to minors, and ensure that digital content remains within the boundary of decency and the law.

The ban has been imposed under provisions of the IT Act, 2000 and the IT Rules, 2021.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also directed Internet Service Providers to disable or remove public access to these websites within India.
