To Catch A Predator Host Chris Hansen Leaves Robert Pattinson's Primetime Screening Over "Restrictive" NDA

On Fox News’ Jesse Watters Primetime, Chris Hansen, the popular host of To Catch A Predator, attacked A24 and its upcoming movie, the Robert Pattinson-starrer Primetime. The Lance Oppenheim directorial dramatically culls from Hansen's show.

Hansen alleged he travelled to A24’s offices Thursday for a private 10 a.m. screening of Primetime when A24's lawyers flung a peculiar NDA for him to sign.

“The lawyers at A24 wanted me to sign away my rights to my name, image and brand essentially, as well as any potential legal rights that would come out of the movie,” Hansen stressed during the appearance. “I couldn’t sign that, so they didn’t show me the film. I went all the way over there.”

Hansen stated his attorneys had already vetted the paperwork and exhorted him against signing. He underlined, "This was a very restrictive agreement. I’ve never seen anything quite like it.” Hansen also flagged why the studio waited until production was complete to approach him, when the film heavily bases itself on his career.

Earlier, in an interview on the "Serialously with Annie Elise" podcast, Hansen claimed, "I'm going to get a private screening in the next week or so, and then I'll be able to tell you whether I like it or don't like it, and how dramatized it is."

"My suspicion is that they used my name because it helps in a commercial enterprise. And until I see the full movie, as a reporter, it's sort of silly for me to talk about something that I haven't seen yet", he added.

Primetime releases in theaters Sept. 25 following its world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival. Directed by Lance Oppenheim in his narrative feature debut and written by Ajon Singh, the movie follows Hansen in 2006 as To Catch a Predator makes the leap from Dateline NBC segment to its own primetime block. The show attracted major controversy, and was ultimately canceled, after a 2006 incident where Bill Conradt, an assistant district attorney in Texas, took his life when police, accompanied by a camera crew, popped up at his home to execute a search warrant in line with a To Catch a Predator probe.
