Rapper Megan Thee Stallion was rushed to the hospital after she started feeling very ill during her performance of Moulin Rouge! The Musical, in New York on Tuesday (March 31) night. Moulin Rouge marks her first-ever Broadway performance, where she is playing Zidler.

Megan Thee Stallion hospitalised

"During Tuesday night’s production, Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated," her rep, Didier Morais, told US media outlets.

"We will share additional updates as more information becomes available."

Kellon Deryck, Megan's hairstylist, wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Everyone say a prayer for Megan, we are all at the hospital."

What happened to Megan Thee Stallion on stage

An X user wrote that Meg featured in a few opening scenes, but the performance was stopped mid-show and theatre officials apologised to the audience and asked them to "stay inside and seated." Megan had to leave the show due to ill health. She was reportedly replaced by another performer for the rest of the show.

Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, will play Zidler until May 17, as per the Moulin Rouge website. The Grammy Award-winning rapper has been sharing glimpses of her performance on social media.

"HOTTIES IM ON BROADWAY!!", she captioned a social media post after her first performance on March 24 at New York’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

Meg, 31, performed her songs Savage and Body in the show. She took charge from Bob the Drag Queen, who finished his theatre run as Zidler on March 22. 

In a statement, while opening up about her Broadway debut, Megan had said, "Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honor. I've always believed in pushing myself creatively and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I'm excited to embrace."

"Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling," the singer said further, adding that she is "up for the challenge."
