WWE legend Dave Bautista has landed the coveted lead role of Kratos in the Amazon Prime Video TV series God of War, which adapts Sony's beloved video game franchise. Emmy-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye is on board to helm the first two episodes.
According to Prime Video, the series will echo the game's story, which sees Kratos, accompanied by Atreus, embarks on a journey to spread the ashes of his wife. Hailing from writer, executive producer and showrunner Ronald D. Moore, two seasons have been ordered, which are planned to be shot back to back.

"Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human," the streamer stated.
The first official images of the God of War TV show, featuring Ryan Hurst, were dropped earlier this year and depicted the character with his son Atreus. They were originally unveiled in 2018's God of War. Hurst was originally announced for the role, but he was injured on set in June and needed surgery for torn biceps. Instead of postponing production into 2027 waiting for his recovery, the role was recast, going to Bautista.

God of War is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Moore’s Tall Ship Productions.

This is only the second series-regular role for Bautista after Season 2 of the Apple TV drama See. Bautista has a long lineup of upcoming projects, Alpha Gang, which premieres at the Toronto Film Festival; the animated Ally; and Highlander. His professional wrestling career traversed two decades, and he emerged one of the most well-known WWE superstars during this time.
