Among the biggest highlights were Brad Bird's long-awaited Ray Gunn, the anime adaptation The One Piece and the newly announced Ghostbusters: Night Shift.

The showcase brought together filmmakers, producers and animation creators as Netflix outlined its plans for animation across films and series over the next few years. While several titles grabbed attention, three projects emerged as clear standouts.

The One Piece anime gets first teaser

One of the biggest announcements from the Netflix Animation Slate 2026 presentation was the debut teaser for The One Piece. Produced by WIT Studio, the series will revisit Eiichiro Oda's beloved manga from the beginning, retelling the East Blue saga with modern animation techniques.

Netflix also confirmed that veteran voice actor Mayumi Tanaka will return as Monkey D. Luffy in the Japanese version. The project is expected to introduce a new generation of viewers to the iconic pirate adventure while remaining faithful to the original source material.

Ray Gunn and Ghostbusters: Night Shift lead new projects

Brad Bird took centre stage at the event to present fresh footage from Ray Gunn, a sci-fi noir adventure that has reportedly been in development for more than 30 years. The film follows Raymond Gunn and Venus Nova, voiced by Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson, respectively.

Netflix also unveiled Ghostbusters: Night Shift, an animated young-adult series developed with Sony Pictures Animation. Set between the original Ghostbusters films and the recent Afterlife era, the series follows a new generation facing supernatural threats in New York City. Other announcements included Charlie vs the Chocolate Factory, featuring Taika Waititi as Willy Wonka, alongside new looks at Steps and In Waves.

Release dates revealed

While several projects remain in development, Netflix confirmed that Ray Gunn will arrive first. The film is scheduled to release on December 18, while The One Piece and Ghostbusters: Night Shift are currently targeting releases in 2027.
