Mumbai Police have arrested actress Alia Bhatt's former personal assistant, Vedika Prakash Shetty for allegedly siphoning off Alia's Rs 76.9 lakh by using fake bills, reported PTI. Shetty was arrested in Bengaluru on Tuesday, July 8. 2025, nearly five months after a police complaint was filed.

After her arrest in Bengaluru, Vedika was brought to Mumbai on a five-day transit remand, according to a Juhu police official.

She was produced before a court on Tuesday and was remanded in police custody till Thursday, the official said.

The police said that the fraud was committed between May 2022 and August 2024.

Alia Bhatt's mother Soni Razdan, who is the director of Alia's production house Eternal Sunshine Productions Private Limited, filed a police complaint against Vedika in January this year.

During the investigation, the police found that the accused worked as Alia Bhatt's personal assistant for three years: from 2021 to 2024. An official said that during the probe, the police also found that Shetty allegedly used to make fake invoices and get Alia's signature on them.

He also said that Shetty used to tell Bhatt that those invoices were for various expenses incurred by the actor for gatherings, meetings, travelling, etc.

After Alia signed the invoices, Shetty sent the payment to her close friend, who used to transfer the entire amount back to Shetty's account, the official said further.

Vedika Prakash Shetty went missing, soon after Razdan's complaint. She kept changing her address. While tracking her location, it was shown she was in Rajasthan, then she was tracked down to Karnataka, then to Pune and finally to Bengaluru, where she was taken into custody.

Shetty has been booked under relevant legal provisions, including for cheating and criminal breach of trust, as per the police.

The investigation officer of the case told The Indian Express that Alia Bhatt herself caught the entire fraud. However, she is yet to comment on Vedika Prakash Shetty's arrest.
