The makers of Mahakali unveiled the first teaser from Akshaye Khanna-starrer.
The film marks Khanna's first mythological film, set for January 2027 release.
Akshaye plays the menacing Asuraguru Shukracharya in Puja Kolluru directorial.

Summary
After stellar performances in Dhurandhar and Ikka, actor Akshaye Khanna is set to wow the audience yet again with his never-before-seen avatar in Mahakali. The makers have already increased the excitement by sharing Akshaye's look as Asuraguru Shukracharya from the mythological film. On Monday, a teaser video was unveiled, giving a closer look at his character. Mahakali has been directed by Puja Kolluru. HanuMan fame director Prasanth Varma has written, conceptualised, and created the epic saga.
Akshaye, who impressed us with his previous outings, is expected to bring something new to the table with the new genre he has dabbled in. His first character poster as Asuraguru Shukracharya was revealed in September 2025.
Mahakali first glimpse out
Khanna looks unrecognisable in the new avatar with long white beard and hair. In the video, his character talks about Dharma and Adharma. Shukracharya reminds everyone how the Asuras faced injustice as Lord Vishnu granted nector only to the Devas, the entire Asur race was pushed into the netherworlds, and the doors of 14 worlds were closed. He now wants to claim victory for the Asuras within 14 days.
Towards the end, he tells Raktabeej to end human race as he says, "Manav jati ka sarvanash kar do."
We also get a glimpse of Maa Kali, which means there will be an epic face off between the formidable power and Shukracharya.
Mahakali release date and cast
Presented by RK Duggal and produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under the RKD Studios banner, Mahakali is set for theatrical release on January 8, 2027 in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
Alongside Khanna, the upcoming film also stars Sriya Reddy, Bhoomi Shetty, Rohit Saraf, Rakesh Bedi, Samuthirakani, Rajat Kapoor, Murali Sharma, Nassar and Prudhviraj, among others in pivotal roles.
Who was Shukracharya?
Shukracharya was the guru of the Asuras in Hindu mythology. He is known as the master of Sanatana Vidya and the secretkeeper of Mrita-Sanjivani Mantra.

Earlier, Hindustan Times quoted sources saying, “All we can reveal is that his role will add intrigue and depth to the growing PVCU universe. His role will span across multiple films in the franchise and will prove to be an exciting addition. We’re hoping Mahakali is received as well as HanuMan was.”
