The current visit of Yamanashi's 200-member delegation has certainly given a new dimension to the relations between Uttar Pradesh and Japan, but if we look at history, this bond of relations is very old and has only grown stronger with time. One end of this bond is tied to the sacred land of Sarnath, where Buddha delivered his first sermon, while the other end connects to a Buddhist temple somewhere in Japan. In this backdrop, the Yamanashi delegation's visit to Agra, Lucknow and Varanasi will not merely be a courtesy visit but also a cultural confluence. The relationship that reached Japan centuries ago in the language of faith and spirituality is today returning in the language of investment, technology and employment and knocking at the doors of Uttar Pradesh. This is a well-planned, logical extension of history and also a glimpse of Uttar Pradesh's future.
