Japan And Odisha To Strengthen Partnerships In Trade, Business, Tourism And Academic Exchanges

Japan CG met Odisha CM to boost ties. Tottori to become a sister state. Focus on trade, investment, tech, tourism, and the Buddhist circuit. Japanese agencies to help Odisha youth get jobs in Japan.

The Consul General of Japan in Kolkata, Mr. Ishikawa Yoshihisa, today met Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi at Loka Seva Bhawan to discuss ways of strengthening the relationship between Japan and Odisha.

During the discussion, Chief Minister Shri Majhi appreciated Japanese support for various development projects in Odisha and the expanding trade relationship. He expressed hope that Japan would expand its footprint in Odisha’s investment and industrialisation efforts.

Japanese Consul General Mr. Ishikawa praised the historic ties between Odisha and Japan in art, culture, history, and heritage. He said Japan is ready to strengthen ties with Odisha in the socio-economic endeavours of the state.

During the discussion, it was decided that the Japanese prefecture (state) of Tottori will partner with Odisha to function as sister states. High-level delegations from both states will visit each other. At a later date, the Odisha Chief Minister and the Tottori Governor will formally declare the partnership.

Besides, it was decided that both Japan and Odisha will strengthen their relationship in trade, investment, technology, and tourism. The Buddhist circuit and other natural places in Odisha will be key to expanding tourism prospects with Japan.

It was also decided that some Japanese recruitment agencies will come to Odisha to enhance the scope for Odia youth to get placements in Japan.

Among others, Chief Secretary Smt. Anu Garg, ACS Industries Shri Hemant Sharma, and ACS to CM Shri Saswat Mishra were present.
