On April 5, 2007, the Supreme Court quashed the FIR registered against James W. Laine by the Maharashtra Government for causing disharmony between communities. Now the Bombay High Court rules that
"after the judgment of the Supreme Courtholding that no offence was disclosed under Section 153-A of the I.P.C, the very basis on which the Notification was issued no longer survived. In these circumstances as a Government bound by the rule of law, the State Government itself ought to have withdrawn the Notification. That would have been the proper constitutional course"
