SCORES of ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) prominent workers have run away from their areas in South Kashmir after a PDP district president was shot dead by militants, the party leaders said.
According to the party MLAs from south Kashmir, some of the frightened workers are staying with them at their official residences.
A party MLA, pleading anonymity said, the workers were shocked by the killing of the PDP district president in Pulwama, Abdul Gani Dar. Police said on Monday, militants shot at Dar in Pinglena area of Pulwama district, 31 kms from Srinagar.
He was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The killing took place on the day when the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti held meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

The party MLAs says the killing prompted other well-known workers to rush to Srinagar as they feared similar attacks.
“Some of my foremost workers have gone to Jammu and are staying there. In my residence at least 20 workers are staying”, said a PDP MLA from South Kashmir. He said the killing of Dar at the highway in the broad day light has created fear psychosis among the workers. According to the PDP insiders the party’s general secretary, Sartaj Madani, has been assigned to provide rented facility to the fleeing workers in Srinagar.
Meanwhile, the Hurriyat Conference hard-line faction chairman Syed Ali Geelani has expressed “deep concern” over the killing Abdul Gani Dar saying “there is no justification for these killings”.

Geelani said it was unfair and against humanity to kill a person for his specific ideology or affiliations.
The aged leader denounced the killings. He said secret killings will lead Kashmir to chaos. Geelani said killing merely for political affiliations or for one’s political ideology is against the teachings of Islam which assign extraordinary worth for human life and saving a human being is like saving of the whole humanity.
