After making the national anthem mandatory in movie halls, the Supreme Court has said today that the same will not apply to courts after a petition sought to make it compulsory at judicial premises as well.

A report in The Times of India mentions that the apex court dismissed the plea which was filed by a senior lawyer. The lawyer had sought to make the singing of the anthem mandatory before court proceedings began.

Earlier, the court had mandated that the anthem be played at movie halls, a decision that has received widespread condemnation online and in the public sphere where critics have been vocal of the court’s decision.
